  9. What do all these terms mean?
  10.  
  11. Microsoft Plus! is an enhancement package for Windows 95. Note
  12. that Microsoft Plus! is required for Theme Changer.
  13.  
  14. Themes are a collection of Windows desktop settings that are
  15. controlled by the Themes application provided by Microsoft
  16. Plus!. For more information, see your Microsoft Plus! 
  17. documentation.

  19. System Agent is an application that allows you to run desired
  20. applications at specific times. See your Microsoft Plus!
  21. documentation for more information.

  23. The Start Menu, Shortcuts and Folders are associated with
  24. Windows 95. Please refer to your Windows 95 documentation for 
  25. more information.

  27. The Windows registry is a file where various system and
  28. application settings are stored. Please refer to your Windows
  29. documentation for more information.

  36. What is Theme Changer?
  37.  
  38. Theme Changer is a 32-bit Windows application that changes the 
  39. current Windows desktop theme each time you run it.

  43. How do I set up Theme Changer?
  44.  
  45. Just copy TChanger.exe and TCSetup.exe to a folder on your
  46. computer. Create shortcuts for both TChanger.exe and TCSetup.exe 
  47. in a Start Menu folder of your choice, so that when you need 
  48. quick access to either of them, they're close at hand.
  49.  
  50. Note that themes do not change very quickly in Windows 95, so 
  51. it is unlikely you would want to put Theme Changer in your 
  52. Startup folder. For best results, set up Theme Changer to run 
  53. periodically (for example, once a week) via System Agent, which 
  54. is provided in Microsoft Plus!. See your Microsoft Plus!
  55. documentation for information on how to setup TChanger.exe to
  56. run periodically via System Agent.

  58. Also provided is Theme Changer Setup (TCSetup.exe), which
  59. allows you to quickly select which desktop items you want to 
  60. change when a new theme is used.

  64. Tips:
  65.  
  66. Since the current version of Microsoft Plus! has only a limited
  67. number of themes, in order to provide more variety it is
  68. recommended that Theme Changer be run in conjunction with
  69. Media Changer 2.0. Media Changer 2.0 is the latest version
  70. of the shareware screen saver, wallpaper, and system sound 
  71. changer that Swoosie Software has recently released. It is
  72. available from most common Internet sites and MSN. Try
  73. ftp://www.process.com/ftp/pub/win95/mchang20.zip for the
  74. current version.

  76. Set up both TChanger.exe and MChanger.exe to run automatically
  77. via Plus!'s System Agent. Recommended scheduling  for these two
  78. programs:
  79.          Media Changer -- At Startup
  80.          Theme Changer -- Weekly
  81.  
  82. Run Theme Changer Setup, and turn off the options 'Screen saver'
  83. and 'Desktop wallpaper'. Choose OK to save those settings.
  84.  
  85. Run Media Changer Setup, and turn off the all of the sound
  86. options. Asterisk, Critical Stop, Default, Exclamation, Exit,
  87. Question, and Start Windows should all be turned off. Make sure
  88. the Wall Paper and Screen Saver options are enabled (checked)
  89. and that the paths point to the correct directories. By
  90. pointing the Screen Saver path to your System directory,
  91. you will be able to use all the available screen savers
  92. (those that come standard with Windows 95 and those that
  93. came with Plus!). Point the Wall Paper path to wherever
  94. you keep a number of wallpaper. Choose the tiling option
  95. (Tile checked in order to tile, Tile unchecked in order to
  96. not tile) that suits the type of bitmaps you have in that
  97. directory. Choose Save to save the current settings, and
  98. then Close to close the dialog.

  100. It is also recommended that you turn the option 'Stretch
  101. desktop wallpaper to fit the screen' ON in the Plus!
  102. tab of the Display Properties Control Panel. This way every
  103. wallpaper that is loaded with automatically fill the screen,
  104. not matter how big or small it is.

  106. NOTE: You can also use Media Changer to update your system
  107. sounds, but since Theme Changer has more available options
  108. (more than just the basic system sounds will be changed)
  109. and it does a better job of updating the sounds on the fly,
  110. it is recommended that you create custom themes with sound
  111. sets that you prefer, and then have Theme Changer change them
  112. for you.

  116. Error Messages:
  117.  
  118. It is possible (but not likely) that you could encounter error
  119. messages when running Theme Changer. Most of these errors will
  120. only occur if Microsoft Plus! is not correctly installed. If
  121. you suspect this is the case, just run Setup.exe in your Plus!
  122. directory. On rare occasions, the Windows registry system will 
  123. do quirky things and cause error messages in Theme Changer. If 
  124. you encounter one of these problems, the best thing to do is 
  125. restart Windows.
